Sublime Sinner Sinks Serbia: Tennis Insights

(November 19th - November 25th Recap)

We kept our promise!

New Videos‼

Last week, we promised to drop not one but two NEW videos for you guys. Earlier in the week, we talked about what Novak Djokovic did differently at the ATP finals in this video. Today we uploaded a video on Stefanos Tsitsipas’ struggles this year with wild takes on his coaching problems, relationship, mentality, and technical ability. The comments section is blowing up with different points of view but we’d love to hear from you as well.

What Happened Last Week?

ATP Finals

Djokovic beat Sinner in straight sets in the final to win his 7th title of the season and 98th ATP title overall. Just another one for the history books.

Davis Cup

Less than a week after their meeting in the Nitto ATP Finals title match, Jannik Sinner got his revenge against Novak Djokovic on Saturday in the Davis Cup semi-finals ending Nole’s 21-match streak at the tournament. Sinner saved three match points by escaping 0/40 at 4-5 in the final set and broke immediately after to seize control of the match in Malaga. 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 your final score.

The result improved Sinner to 2-4 in his ATP Head-to-Head with Djokovic overall and 2-2 this season. After beating Serbia in the decisive doubles, Italy set up a final clash with Alex De Minaur’s Australia. Italy ultimately defeated Australia to claim their second Davis Cup title in history and their first in 47 years.

Ranking Update: The Biggest Movers Of The Week

There are no changes in the ranking since the season is all but over. But with Novak Djokovic almost 2,400 points ahead of Carlos Alcaraz, we can expect the Serbian to remain world number one until at least after the 2024 Australian Open. Meanwhile, these are the prize money leaders for 2023.

Major Tournament Updates

Next Gen ATP Finals (28 November - 02 December)

The groups have been announced for the next gen ATP finals. The event takes place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In the Green group, we have Arthur Fils, Dominic Stricker, Luca Nardi, and Flavio Cobolli. In the Red group, we have Luca Van Assche, Alex Michelsen, Hamad Medjedovic, and Abdullah Shelbayh. The 2023 Next Gen ATP Finals presented by NEOM will award a tournament-record $2 million in prize. Here’s the full prize structure. But who do you fancy for the title?

HOT TAKES

I’d wager that Novak will focus more on clay next year considering what is at stake for him. The Olympics will be held on clay, he has a chance to get the 3x golden Masters and the 4x career slam and Monte Carlo and the French Open respectively.

Also, you get the feeling that Rafael Nadal will win a couple of titles with his comeback in 2024. Of course, we can expect those titles to be on clay. The truth is that although it looks quite unlikely for Nadal to be back with a bang considering how long he’s been out, the nature of his injuries, and how much the tour has changed since he last played. But the truth is… It’s hard to bet against Rafa considering his repertoire on clay.

Do you agree with all of these predictions?

Watch Out For This Guy

Jannik Sinner

Arguably the hottest tennis player in the world right now, we just can’t get enough of the Italian. After beating Djokovic for the second time this season and leading Italy to their first Davis Cup title in 47 years, coupled with a career-best season so far, I’d fancy Jannik Sinner for at least a grand slam final in 2024. By the way, would you like us to make a video about Jannik Sinner?

Off The Court

Alcaraz The Grandmaster

Carlos Alcaraz was seen  playing Chess in Murcia's Plaza de las Flores a couple of days ago. He has since claimed that the game helps him to outthink opponents during rallies on the court. Carlitos’ grandfather taught him how to play chess as a young boy and the game has grown on him since then. It’s quite interesting to see tennis legend Boris Becker doing the same for Holger Rune.

Roger Federer Honored

The Swiss maestro was invited on stage during Andrea Bocelli’s concert in Zurich last week. Sharing the stage with one of the most gifted singers of all time has to be something special. Check out the video here.

Sky Sports Partnership

Sky Sports just secured new partnerships with the ATP and WTA Tours. The five-year partnership will see over 80 tournaments made up of 4000 matches available on Sky Sports, NOW and WOW.

Trivia Of The Week

Since it’s Davis Cup season, we might as well bring you up to speed on some trivia. Did you know that the competition was created in 1900 with the United States winning the competition? It was originally known as The International Lawn Tennis Challenge Trophy before its name was Davis Cup in 1945.

Before we go, we’ll leave you with some of the best highlights of the week.
