Finishing Strongly
Many players have their stocks on the rise with the season coming to an end, so if you thought we were done for the year after the US Open, you’re wrong. Here’s what you need to know right now.
New Videos
In the spirit of “Cocomania” we dropped another super exciting Video of Coco Gauff a few days back. Let us know if you agree with what tennis legends are saying about her. Meanwhile, we couldn’t help but talk about the “Djokovic effect” on players in our latest Video. Never trash-talk Novak because there’s only one outcome to it.
Ranking Update: The Biggest Movers Of The Week
Andrey Rublev narrowly missed out on the opportunity to overtake Jannik Sinner and enter into the top 4 after losing to “Hubi” Hurkacz in the Shanghai Masters final. The biggest mover of the week is none other than the Polish superstar. Owing to his title win, Hurkacz is set to jump 6 spots up to number 11 but there’s a bigger fish to fry - The Race to Turin.
Hubert Hurkacz has put himself in the conversation and is within touching distance of Holger Rune who occupies the 8th spot at the moment. Less than 350 points separate Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Taylor Fritz, and Hubert Hurkacz. Who do you see stealing the spot?
Not much has changed on the women’s side though. The top 10 remains the same while Barbora Krejčíková jumps 5 spots up to number 13 after reaching the final at Zhengzhou. Qinwen Zheng won the title at Zhengzhou and is set to break into the WTA Top 20 for the first time.
But what tournaments do we have coming up?
Major Tournament Updates
Starting from tomorrow, 16/10/2023, we have 3 ATP 500s back-to-back at the Japan Open, Erste Bank Open in Vienna, and the Swiss Indoors Basel. In between, we have a couple of ATP 250s: the Nordic Open and European Open, before the money ends with the last Masters 1000 event of the season at the Rolex Paris Masters.
Watch Out For These Guys
Ugo Humbert: Those crushing leftie groundstrokes from the Frenchman seem to be getting better and better. How far do you see him going?
Fabian Maroszan: The Hungarian beat Carlos Alcaraz on clay earlier this year and defeated Casper Ruud at the Shanghai Masters. His drop shots are unreal and we believe he has something special.
Off The Court
Tokyo
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alexander Zverev made sushi in Tokyo on Saturday. Not quite sure how that turned out but we’ll be eager to see something special from both players when the Japan Open begins.
Roger Federer
He may have retired a year ago but his popularity shows no signs of slowing down. Apart from being honored with an Icon Athlete Award at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, which saw Chinese fans pay tribute to the Swiss legend, Roger Federer has also made the Forbes Top 10 Highest-Paid Athletes list, coming 9th. According to Forbes, the 20-time major champion Federer earned $95.1 million dollars between 1 May 2022 and 1 May 2023. How many matches did he play? I bet you know the answer.
Trivia Of The Week
Jimmy Connors won the US Open on three different surfaces; grass at Forest Hills in 1974, clay at Forest Hills in 1976, and hard court in 1978 at Flushing Meadows. Sometimes, these legends don’t get the praise that they deserve probably due to recency bias.
But before we go, we’ll leave you with some of the best highlights of the week.
