New Videos
We uploaded 2 videos last week on Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz; their US Open recaps and what we can expect from both players in the future. We left some hot takes and not everyone agreed with them but check out the videos and let us know your thoughts.
Ranking Update: The Biggest Movers Of The Week
There are no changes in the ATP top 20 but that’s surely going to change in the coming month. On the women’s side, Maria Sakkari is set to climb 3 spots up to no. 6 after winning the Guadalajara title; her first Masters 1000 while Victoria Azarenka is set to break into the top 20 by tomorrow. She clearly still has a lot in the tank.
Major Tournament Updates
We are back in China for the first time in 4 years and 2 ATP 250s lead the way.
Chengdu 250
Grigor Dimitrov hits 400 career wins at the Chengdu Open in China. At 32, do you think the former world number 3 still has what it takes to become a top 10 player again? Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev, Lorenzo Musetti, and Roman Safiullin are all into the semis. Who takes this one?
Zhuhai 250
Karen Khachanov and Serba Korda meet in the semis. Interestingly, Khachanov hasn’t won any ATP title since 2018. Would he finally get his hands on this one?
Laver Cup
I almost forgot we still have the Laver Cup going on. No top 5 player made it to this year’s edition and I think that sucks. At least, we got to see Roger Federer there. Already been a year since he retired. Team Europe or Team World? Do you even care about the Laver Cup?
Shanghai Masters
More players have withdrawn from the Shanghai Masters. Djokovic already confirmed a couple of days back that he isn’t going to play there. Matteo Berrettini is also not going to be playing. And then we have injury concerns with some other players but we’ll know know for sure entering into the week.
Watch Out For These Guys
Sebastian Korda: He’s been super impressive this week with exceptional shot-making. I think we should keep an eye on him for the remainder of the season.
Lorenzo Musetti: The Italian is playing out of his skin at the moment and is a contender for the title in Chengdu
Phillip Sekulic: This guy plays on the challenger tour and is ranked 325 but you wouldn’t have known if you watched his match against Musetti in Chengdu. His brute force and big-hitting kinda reminds you of Juan Martin Del Potro. I think this guy might break into the top 100 in the near future.
Off The Court
The word on the street is that Holger Rune is in love😍. He’s dating Italian Caroline Donzella. Bet he’ll be more motivated than ever.😂
Meanwhile Rafael Nadal has attempted to clarify his comments on Novak Djokovic after initially stating that Djokovic lives the grand slam race in a more intense way than him. After receiving a lot of backlash, Nadal has tried to smoothen the edges, even going as far as admitting that Djokovic is the best in history and that he has better numbers. If you missed the full gist, you can get it here.
But for Rafa and Roger, the bromance continues. After all, Federer picked Nadal over his wife as his best doubles partner.😂
Trivia Of The Week
Which singles player made it to 8 consecutive US Open finals? No, no it’s not Roger Federer. Try again. Many of us actually forget how good Ivan Lendl actually was. He made the final of every US Open between 1982 and 1989. That’s almost a whole decade. Crazy!
But before I go, I’ll leave you with my favorite highlights of the week.
